ABTA Members offer greater protection against Airline Collapse
Yet again many hundreds of customers stand to lose money and will be left stranded abroad following the collapse of an airline. The failure of Zoom demonstrates that the modern package holiday provides more than just good value, infinite variety and incredible choice coupled with the flexibility that travellers today demand. It shows that the package remains the leading product offering unrivalled financial protection for customers.

For many years ABTA – The Travel Association has been calling on the Government to require all airlines to provide financial protection for their customers. Until this happens there’s one sure-fire way for customers to ensure that they don’t face the problems currently faced by many customers of Zoom.  If travellers book through an ABTA Member, they can either buy a package holiday, which would protect them through the Package travel regulations, or they could buy a scheduled airline financial insurance policy. Many Zoom customers will have no such cover.

“This failure in a tough economic climate, along with numerous other airline failures this year, highlights the importance of having financial protection in place when you book flights,” said Mark Tanzer, ABTA Chief Executive. “ABTA Members can offer the maximum amount of protection. Just ask.”
